In the Garden
Mexican Oregano is a lot different than other types of oregano. It doesn’t look, grow, or taste like oregano because it isn’t really in the oregano family. Mexican Oregano grows more like a small shrub rather than the traditional trailing plant. It is actually closely related to Lemon Verbena. It requires a well-drained soil, full sun, and an average amount of water. It grows to a height of about 2 feet and produces violet and white blooms in the late spring and summer.
Plant Uses
It has a strong, spicy, but slightly bitter flavor and is very popular in Mexican cuisine. The leaves can be used fresh or you can dry them and store them in an airtight container.
