In the Garden
Pot marjoram does great in containers or in your garden and it produces little white flowers. Plant pot marjoram in a rich, well-drained soil in the full sun. Pinch back the flowers and tops of the plant to promote branching and leaf growth. Pot marjoram is deer resistant but it will attract bees and butterflies. As the plant matures, the branches will become woody. When this happens, simply cut the plant off close to the ground and new foliage will grow within two weeks.
Plant Uses
Pot marjoram is a culinary herb that tastes similar to oregano with a hot and spicy flavor. The leaves, stems, and flowers are all edible, but the leaves are most commonly used. It adds great flavor to all kinds of meat and seafood. It is not as “sweet” as sweet marjoram. The white flowers and stems can be dried and used in arrangements and in potpourri.
