In the Garden
Bouquet Dill is strictly a spring and fall herb. It does not do well in the Texas summer because of the long hot days. Plant it in well drained soil with a half-day of sun. Swallowtail butterflies love this plant and you will notice caterpillars everywhere. The caterpillars will eat the foliage of the plant so take them off if you want to use the fresh leaves for cooking. Bouquet Dill will do great in your garden or in a container and it will require average amounts of water.
Plant Uses
Bouquet Dill can be used for its fresh foliage and for the seeds. The fresh foliage is great on potatoes, seafood, vegetables, butters, cheeses, soups, and lamb chops. The seeds can be gathered and used for pickling. To harvest the fresh foliage, cut the leaves off close to the stem to promote additional growth. Once the plant begins to flower you will no longer be able to use the fresh foliage. Let the flowers seed out and cut the flower stems before the seeds begin to drop. Place the seed pods in a paper bag and let them dry out completely before placing them in a container.
