Cinnamon Basil

Plant Specifications

Ocimum basilicum ‘Cinnamon’ Annual Full Sun Height: 3′

In the Garden

Originally from Mexico, it produces light lavender flowers with purple flower stems. It likes the full sun but is not drought tolerant so keep it watered. This basil likes the heat and warm soil as long as it gets enough water. It requires moderately rich soil and will grow to a height of 3 feet. This basil is tender so be careful not to bruise the leaves while harvesting.

Plant Uses

Cinnamon Basil, as it’s name might suggest, has a cinnamon aroma and flavor. It is a mild basil that goes great on fresh fruit. Simply cut up some pineapple, peaches, or mangos and put chopped cinnamon basil leaves on top for a great summer fruit salad. Add chopped cinnamon basil to olive oil to make cinnamon flavored oil that is great for frying bananas and apples. It is also great to use when baking pies and cookies. The pretty light lavender flowers and cinnamon aroma are great in flower arrangements.
