Purple Sage

Plant Specifications

S. officinalis ‘Purpurascens’ Tender Perennial. Sun. Height: 14” – 18”
Aromatic, spectacular purple-gray foliage that grows into a compact mound.

In the Garden

This glamorous sage rarely flowers which helps to keep it at a more moderate height and from falling apart in the center. Its stunning color teams well alongside lavender, another aromatic favorite in the garden.
Planted in sun and well-drained soil, this will be an easy keeper. This is one sage that stands cold the least.

Plant Uses

Purple sage is the most effective sage medicinally, it can be made into teas for medicinal uses, used as an anti inflammatory agent for insect bites and can relive chest colds and congestion. Pregnant or nursing women should not use purple sage, as it slows milk production. It can also be used as a replacement for Garden Sage in recipes.
